That is a long time for a beta, by any standard. I say this as someone who has been a developer professionally for 20+ years. Your point is well-taken, but this isn't a good example of it. The issue with Cosmic is that the release of an open alpha was arguably a bad decision, and they should have waited for a beta version before unveiling en masse to the general public. I suspect this was a decision made by the PR department, not the dev team.
