Wage stagnation is a myth. See the Cato article annoying persistence of the stagnant wage myth.

@madmikemackas they MORE than keep up with the cost of living if your reference point is over the past several decades. If you are referring to the past year alone then you would be correct, but this is not the larger trend over the long term.

@madmikemackas I already referenced my source in the first comment and you’re wrong. Anecdote is not data. The facts show that Americans have a higher standard of living and can afford more on fewer hours of work than they did in the 70s, 80s or 90s. You cannot turn rhetoric into data. Read the source I gave you. The data does not lie. Leftist media does.

@madmikemackas yes, it does. If you had read the source then you would see the objective data showing it.

@madmikemackas not only did my article show the data showing the OBJECTIVE side of this, but if anything it is getting easier and easier for people to retire now than it ever has been. I retired at age 30 myself. It’s called the FIRE movement. I didn’t have things handed to me. I did not have a lucrative job. I paid off my student loans as soon as possible, paid off my house as soon as possible, and put every other available dollar into tax advantaged retirement accounts. I live in a relatively low cost of living part of the US and I live a simple life without many frills. I am not saying this to brag but I say it to help others adopt something similar rather than adopting the doomerism that the left peddles which does no one any good.
