  1. I think Singapore is cheaper than Kuala Lumpur to live in. Reason is let’s look at the average salary of a fresh Graduate in Singapore is S$ 2,000 and the average salary of a fresh graduate in Kuala Lumpur is also MYR 2,000. We now then compare the average cost of a plate of chicken rice in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. Chicken rice being a simple food that most affordable across all communities in this region. Average cost of a plate of Chicken rice in Singapore is S$ 2.50 whilst the average cost of plate of chicken rice in Kuala Lumpur is MYR 6.50 therefore it costs a Malaysian more to have a basic meal than a Singaporean. If you look at the cost of public transport where majority of the community will rely on, it may be cheaper now in Kuala Lumpur thanks to the new Government that came out with a monthly travel pass of MYR 100 unlimited travel per month whereas last year it is common for an average worker in Kuala Lumpur to spend up to MYR 300 per month just to get to and from work, If you look at room rental as most could not rent a whole apartment. The average rental for a room in Kuala Lumpur is approximately MYR 500 - 600 per room. Depending on the area this could also mean that you pay MYR 500 per share for 2 persons per room. This would also be the same as costs in Singapore as well. Therefore I believe that Singapore is not the most expensive city to live in. The reason being that when you say such it will have to resonate with the people living there not just numbers as those numbers will mean nothing to the man on the streets.
