Sounds like you traveled kind of lite. From my own time as a police officer in America, I can tell you we carried quite a bit of gear. From a bullet resistant vest, 4 pairs of handcuffs, a X26 taser (with spare cartridges), can of pepper spray, (2) 13-round magazines, collapsible ASP baton, a Glock pistol, and a radio (felt like a cement truck, and felt like I had the speed of one too). Also carried a fairly heavy equipment bag in the trunk of the squad car that consisted of extra writing instruments, and spare evidence bags and paperwork.

Death notifications can always be tough, especially when it is a resident check where the person has been deceased for several weeks (need a strong stomach for that). Though a "body in the boot" is something that I have never encountered.
