Looking at Cleveland today, I'd say we are worse off now in 2025 than in 1962. Slums, poverty, and urban decay are still major problems. Middle-class jobs? Mostly gone. My grandfather worked for J&L (later LTV) from 1933 to 1968. Raised two kids, and my grandmother was a stay-at-home mom. Nowadays, everyone in the household has to work just to make a living. It's a far cry from the vision of progress they had back then. Yes, back then, two cars in the garage, wife could stay at home, and you could do all that on nothing more than a good work ethic and a high school diploma.
I have 3 college degrees, work full-time, and have one car (it's 18 years old by now), and I still struggle to make ends meet. Sure wish I could get my piece of the good life; I'm more than willing to work for it. Living in Garfield Heights in 2025, it is turning into the slums.
Instead of sending money overseas, maybe we should invest in our own communities for a change.
