  1. Yes, this is a well-known fact. But here is a better question to ponder: Why didn't Britain and France declare war on Russia when they attacked Poland a few weeks after Germany did? That would be analogous to a man robbing a bank through the front door, and then a few minutes later someone else comes in through the back door and helps themselves to what money was left over.
