Wait, how do you guys know that the customers don’t know about the counterfeit products? Maybe they CHOSE and INTENDED to buy those so as to get a better price in comparison to the originals. I don’t like politicians meddling with the market. They create more problems than they solve. Let the market sort itself out. Moreover, I don’t think that American customers are idiots so as to buy dangerous substances. Is there like a grand scale problem with those? Why does Navarro mention it? Disclaimer: I do not live in the States nor am I an American citizen. I would vote Republican if I was.

I am against the notion of him (or whoever) meddling with the market. This is exactly what power-hungry “liberals” (always put them in quotations for they are nothing but) always want to do. They all pretend that they are going to “save” us from bad capitalists when in fact their interventions always ends up with more power for them. Then lobbyists (have more incentives to) exploit that power and flattened down competition. If you have a problem with purchases from Amazon take it directly to them and, moreover, do better research next time! Problem solved! Don’t award politicians more power than they already have! (which is the American “liberal” default stance).

Counterfeit products are a different product to the original that RESEMBLE them. Competition is good for the consumer. If a producer is selling a product and overprices it with no reason a good counterfeit will straighten him out. I am therefore against meddling with the market. It gives power to politicians and that’s a bad thing. The more power they have the more lobbying incentives are created and the more cronyism arises.

Jay Ray your understanding of economics is what’s the problem. Income taxes, (just like Einstein once said), is the hardest thing in the universe to understand. No one has the right to redistribute wealth from the central planner’s perspective. The market does that far more fairly than any worthless professional politician. Concentration of wealth in free markets is not an issue at all. Free markets = the minimum amount of taxes = the best prices for any product or service you can get (provided that there is ample competition). Cronyism and meddling with the market is hurting the middle and poor guy more than anything. For example, raising minimum wages is extremely detrimental, especially for the very weak of society. It essentially excludes them from the market and captures them in a hostage-and-kidnapper scheme between them and the professional politicians that proclaim they “care” for them. They then rain welfare coupons on them and create, thus, a voter body for themselves despite the fact that hand outs create ghettoes, increase feelings of worthlessness and nihilism, demotes the individual into a politician’s pet!

TxCowPoke a power switch shouldn’t be a problem. It’s a power switch not a logic board. Any good professional could replace that with a similar switch. Heck, even you could look the internet and found a solution. Politicians should stay away from meddling with the market. If you lost money on a product with Amazon and quality wasn’t as good as proclaimed ou should take the issue with them. I has several issues as well and my complains were always honored (I either got a refund or a replacement). I live in the EU.

david weaver for a guy/kid that hasn’t have the 200$, a 35$ low-quality alternative might do a descent job for them. We should be encouraging pluralism and more options. It makes us more mature consumers and takes away power from politicians. I am against politicians that meddle with the market. They create all sorts of problems when they do.
