@markrowland1366 Yeah! Then the batteries bump a rock and you have to scrap them because the warning button popped off (warning that the battery might have swelled). Try searching for a clip that shows a KIA Ioniq in Canada being charged $60.000 for a new battery for just bumping a rock with the undercarriage! A very small rock, I might add.

Of course it's all about profit. That's what businesses are made for. The main problem lies with the consumer. If the consumer doesn't research big purchases like the car they are about to get indebted for, these issues will persist. If, however, people, like our friend in this video, expose the obvious flaws of a certain product and the same attitude is followed by others like him, businesses will have no alternative than change their ways. When a company doesn't change it's either because of incompetence or lack of customer reaction (or both). Some go bankrupt. No profit there! That's why brands like BMW invest so much in creating a fan base and fanatic following, they can go further with their mistakes vs, say, Skoda or Renault who don't have that kind of loyalty.

First of all you should be a fan of capitalism and the markets. It's the economic equivalent of objectivity and science, decentralized (I was going to use the word Democracy but, unfortunately, the rule of the majority isn't always fair to the smallest minority in society - the individual). You said in this clip that motives are the profit. Perhaps, but look what you just did here and what others like you have been doing when pointing these flaws out: you took away that profit with a simple clip. They have invested millions in these products and you just debunked their efforts with a video that costs, what, 20 euros on electricity or less (?). I, for one, will never look for a car with such an engine. The market of products, ideas, services, etc is a highly competitive domain and if some of the participants believe that they can fool the public and get away with it, I assure you (especially in the age of widespread information) that losses are easier than profits. Good and useful video. Keep it up. P.S. I own a vehicle with gear driven cams. In fact everything's gear driven apart from the alternator which has a small and thick belt and sits in the "V" of the V10 engine.

@rimmersbryggeri Concerning the VAG group engines, depends on the model. There are some great engines out there that last forever. I own one which is completely gear driven and has no timing belts or chains whatsoever. Time has shown that these are a bit sensitive to engine oil type (and the VAG group recommended ...the wrong oil!) but if you take care of the oil that engine is a gem. P.S. Even if you use the wrong oil you'll get premature cam lobe wear and you'll need a new top end but that's it.

@rimmersbryggeri it's like a Swiss watch and they have been engines that reached a million kms with no problems. Sensitive items are turbos (mine has two, one on each bank but I know what not to do - run them hot and shut the engine off without allowing for a cool down). If you don't race the car, it's going to serve you for a long time as it's over-engineered for huge torque and good power. I use it at 40-50% of its potential. That's the key for longevity with every vehicle and once in a while let it stretch its legs. Everything seats better. P.S. And, of course, never let it without use for long periods of time. Seals and o-rings get dry and you're asking for lots of trouble if you do.
