And your evidence for this claim is?

1. The reactors for our submarines will not be built in Australia. They will be built in the UK by Rolls Royce or in the US by GE. This technology is secret and will never be shared with the Australian government for commercial use. 2. If you are equating the research reactor at Lucas Heights with a 1 Gw (edit) PWR then you clearly don’t understand the technology.

@VK6AB- Yes they a SG9 reactors made by GE. I made no comment about their power output only how much a Virginia class SSN costs. Clearly you didn’t understand my comment. So once again, the technology of these reactors will never, repeat will never be shared with anyone for commercial use. The technology is secret and has only been shared once and that was to enable the UK to power its SSBN and SSN fleet.

@VK6AB- No you misunderstood. I clearly broke my comment up into two separate parts. The second point referred to the LNP plan for its 7 reactors in Australia. I most certainly didn’t link the power output of a SMR in a SSN with the power output of a commercial PWR. Read more carefully next time, take your illiteracy to X.

@VK6AB- I have corrected my error in my first comment in the second part which should have read 1Gw. This in no way however effects the point of the comment, which was comparing the technology of a small research reactor to a large PWR being quite naive.

@VK6AB- A small scale research reactor is significantly different to a large scale PWR used to produce electricity.

@VK6AB- I didn't make a rudimentary error I just made a fat finger error in typing and put a M instead of a G and corrected it when I realised it. Not ashamed to admit I make mistakes. All you have presented is dogma and personal opinion, none of which is supported by any data.

@williamsharp2532 The issue with our SSN is the loss of sovereignty in not being allowed access to the technology. France offered us SSN as well and we knocked that idea back. Due to successive government failures we now face a huge problem. Our Collins class SS are wearing out fast, and our SSN are still a long way off.

@VK6AB- According to the World Nuclear Association there are three ways to measure the power rating of a nuclear reactor. 1. Thermal MWt (what i used) 2. Gross electrical MWe (which you used) and 3. Net electrical MWe I confused nothing. I certainly am not pretending to have expert knowledge of nuclear reactors.

@VK6AB- A research reactor at Lucas heights is irrelevant to the legislation and investment and politics required to initiate a nuclear power industry. As explained earlier there are a variety of ways to measure the power of a nuclear reactor. This isn’t my opinion it is the opinion of the World Nuclear Association. Having the uranium reserves is again irrelevant. France has no uranium and has a nuclear power industry. Just because we have uranium doesn’t automatically commit us to using it. This argument is nonsense. Once again the power plants to fit our SSN will not be manufactured in Australia they will be built by GE in the US and Rolls Royce in the UK. Not interested in your opinion just presenting common public knowledge based on factual data that is publicly available to anyone.
