  1. So US beef producers are unable to guarantee the point of origin or the food chain security of a box of beef turning up in Australia. Due to mad cow and foot and mouth we banned US beef in 2006 and in 2016 removed the ban and instituted some bio-security rules. It is US producers that refuse to meet these rules. US abattoirs are unable to certify point of origin, they routinely mix Canadian, Mexican, and South American beef. The US has inspectors in our abattoirs and pass our beef for sale in the US. Also Australian beef is produced at 50 to 75% cheaper than US beef, hence why they buy so much. What is the real issue. In my opinion it is inferior US beef at more expensive costs and US cattle producers what subsidies and tariff protection because they are unable to compete on a free market.
