No problem but even Rolls Royce say they need a run of 80 to 90 for it to be commercially viable for them.

@awc900 Fair enough but it’s still a long way off. Politically nuclear power in Australia is still a no go.

@lokai7914 NuScale still haven’t sold a single unit and are still two years off final approval for their latest model. I have no issues with SMRs but cheap they will not be. The regulation to prevent weapon proliferation is hugely expensive.

@awc900 And I have no problem with that. I personally think nuclear energy will be an important part of of energy production in the future, but in the meantime renewables currently are cheap and effective. Dispatchability and storage are issues but not insurmountable. I'm not waiting around for a political compromise that may or may not eventuate in the medium term that will allow nuclear into the market.

@awc900 Mate you are off in fantasy land. If you seriously think a coal fired power station is going to be built in Australia in the short term I have a bridge in Sydney to sell you. The source of renewable infrastructure is a concern but again not insurmountable, alternative markets can be sought. I agree with you about SMRs but the reality is it is not going to change any time soon. I hope it does as we could power all our regional cities and towns with them. The grid does not need shoring up.

Commercial available SMR are still years away.
