Dean is making it racial, a voice is merely a cultural group requesting a say in legislation that effects them according to the unique nature of there situation.

@gracecollins8415 And your point is? That as a group of people they are one of the most imprisoned on the planet. I can't even believe you started with that statement "equality under the law" the complete tone deafness in your comment is breathtaking. It is as if you lack any sort of empathy or are attempting to justify a history of violence, racism and dispossession of the indigenous community.

@gracecollins8415 It wasn't the only thread, as my initial comment identified three other general areas of disadvantage. Do you wish me to quote the data? because i can do that, but what will that achieve? You already know they suffer worse health outcomes, earn less, die earlier, suffer higher unemployment. The rates of childbrith mortality are higher the list goes on and on. Why are you so terrified of the indigenous community having a constitutional voice in our parliament. It will have no veto or legislative power. It is what they have requested as part of what they have asked for in seeking reconciliation. We have denied them virtually everything else.

@gracecollins8415 And you are correct when you suggest there is a myriad of reasons why. However racism and a sense of cultural superiority gained from the enlightenment that ended in colonisation has played its part. This is not to attribute guilt but acknowledge past wrongs, ie how much indigenous input was sort in the framing of our constitution?
