No it is due to coal plants breaking down and planned maintenance in an effort to manipulate the system. There is more than sufficient coal powered capacity they have just been switched off by the operators.

Origin Energy, Eraring plant, reduced capacity AGL, Bayswater plant, off-line due to maintenance AGL, Loy Yang A plant, off-line due to technical issues AGL, Liddell plant, one unit off-line due to unplanned maintenance Callide Energy, Callide plant, off-line due to fire. That is a total of approximately 9000 megawatts of coal powered electricity unavailable. Are you being wilfully ignorant or deliberately obtuse

@Joe Shabidu surely it would be better for the environment if you just let those plastic bags go and blow around your property. That way they could last for years killing wildlife and polluting waterways. A much better outcome.

Yes you are correct coal power in Australia is having difficulty finding finance because it is so unreliable, dirty and expensive, and renewables are way cheaper, but I was being polite and didn’t want to kick coal while it was down.

@anthonystenhouse9584 So having exposed your lack of knowledge of the NEM you start creating strawman arguments in an attempt to justify your earlier ill-informed comment. The transition to renewables has been a agonising slow process due to policy inaction that has been neither good for the fossil or renewable energy sector. Net Zero doesn't mean zero fossil fuels.
