You do understand President Trump signed the agreement to withdraw all US troops by May 2021. A four page document was signed in Feb 2020 almost a year before Biden became President. You can read it on the State Department website. Your statement is just nonsensical.

@trinhbrule5439 Your comment just has no basis in fact, and shows you haven't even read the withdrawal agreement Trump signed with the Taliban. You are just making things up in your imagination that you believe to be true to justify your opinion. If you can't reply sensiblely don't bother.

@paulveenings6861 Your right the release of the 5000 Taliban detainees was a seperate deal Trump forced on the Afgan government, however the deal Trump did with the Taliban was not overly ownerous on the Taliban, don't support Al-Qaeda and have some talks with the Afgan government and I will remove all US forces by May 21. It wasn't Biden promise it was Trumps. Just a factcheck.

@paulveenings6861 Jeez I was agreeing with you and your right I should have mentioned it was more of a prisoner swap than release, but the entire procedure of the withdrawal and timeline was Trumps plan. I'm not letting Biden off the hook he could have played it however he wanted, but you seem to be cherry picking your facts now. Do you not think that Trump reducing troop levels from 16000 in 2020 to just 2500 by Jan 21 did not also contribute to the rapid rise of the Taliban?

Those thousands of Americans and anyone else had 17 months notice to leave when President Trump signed an agreement with the Taliban to withdraw all US forces in Feb 20. That is enough time to order a Ferrari and have it delivered from the factory, plenty of time to buy an airplane ticket and get out of Dodge.

@tonygrainger7813 Biden certainly wanted out of Afghanistan and no doubt the previous three Presidents all did as well. I would've not used the emotive word desperation as Biden pretty much merely stuck to Trumps timeline. The American people when polled have consistently said they wanted out of Afghanistan so I don't see Biden as being desperate. He has just followed through with Trumps plan. Also at this point Americans haven't been injured or killed and flights are continuing to evacuate people so potentially everyone who wants to get out will.

@tonygrainger7813 Yes the current situation is not a success Totally agree, but the fiasco that we are seeing before our eyes did not begin with the current administration the previous three administrations all share the blame of failed US foreign policy in Afghanistan. Remember Bush having committed to Afghanistan conducted the first withdrawal in 2003 and had troop levels down to only a few thousand.
