$34 billion. That’s how much Westinghouse has charged so far for the two reactors it is building in Georgia US. Initial estimate $14 billion. Construction began in 2009 (that’s 25 years ago) The project has gone broke once and required $8 billion in loan guarantees from the US government. Best find a better example.

@daveo3122 Oops my bad. Yes 15 years ( not sure that is really a good point though). By regulation do you mean safety. I agree it is not a typical example and I wasn’t suggesting so, only that picking Westinghouse PWRs was not the best example of price and timeline. You can’t possibly be suggesting that Australia (liberal democracy) compares to the UAE (Monarchy). Are you seriously suggesting with the change in legislation at both a state and federal level and the regulatory bodies required to be put in place first before any approval and construction began that 10 years is a viable estimate to have a working nuclear reactor pumping electricity into the grid in Australia.

@daveo3122 Oh yes the political system plays very much an important part. In fact possibly the most significant. In the UAE the decision was made by the Monarch. In Australia that decision will be made at the end of a democratic process. Those are two very distinct processes and timelines. Labor are never going to go nuclear and the LNP may say they are but first have to be in government and then get the legislation through the parliament (potentially a Labor/Greens senate majority). Then there are the states to deal with. You have to deal with the real world.

Pitt is a con artist. He has cherry picked South Korea because it is the cheapest construction, why didn’t he pick the UK or the US?
