@4thought___ Coal in NSW is heavily subsidised by the state government.

Nuclear powered generation in the US is state and federally subsidised to enable it to compete against cheaper forms of generation.

@deanhays6115 Snowy 2.0 costs blew out due to geological and engineering mistakes related to tunnelling. Nothing to do with unions or bureaucracy.

@scubaaddict Factually incorrect. Thorium SMR are capable of spinning off U233 in the generation process. It is difficult and not the best way to produce it, but it can be done. The electricity produced from SMRs will be very expensive due to the regulatory controls required to prevent weapon proliferation.

By the way a little snippet I left out U233 bombs have been tested and they work.

@deanhays6115 Yep that's easy to say in hindsight.

@AximandTheCursed Thanks for agreeing with me 100% on both the regulatory cost of nuclear power to generate electricity and to stop weapon proliferation and ensure safety.

@4thought___ Your reply displays an unbelievable amount of ignorance as to the level of both federal and state government subsidies to the NSW coal industry in both the mining and electricity generation industries. Apart from the absurd suggestion, the CCP has anything to do with the energy policies of the NSW LNP, which is just RWNJ conspiracy theory stuff. Exactly WTF are you talking about?

@AximandTheCursed And as usual you have no understanding of the real world. PWR are prohibitively expensive as shown by their construction and running costs. They are subsidised in every market from Korea to France and the US. The so called saviour of Nuc energy (SMRs) has fallen over and as explained will need to be heavily regulated (that means extra cost you dimwit) to prevent weapon proliferation. What little rose coloured fantasy world do you live in that no one exists to cause harm. There are terrorists right now planning and attempting to get their hands on WMD.

@AximandTheCursed I have now read several reports and accounts of what happened at TMI 2, none of them support your claim of plumbers being the fault. Numerous equipment, operator, and management failures all contributed. Multiple recommendations to the design, maintenance and operations of nuclear reactors in the US to prevent further accidents all have contributed to the costs of construction and maintenance of PWR. Your claim of constructing and planned nuclear reactors is also wildly exaggerated. Currently approximately 60 are under construction and 100 planned, however over the last 20 years 90 odd nuclear reactors have started up but 107 have been decommissioned. Currently Nuclear generated electricity accounts for approximately 10% of total electricity production worldwide. Total worldwide renewable electricity production is currently approximately 30%.

@AximandTheCursed Nah yeah Nah, none of the accounts or investigations including anything on the IAEA website support your assertion. I’m not suggesting you have made it up as I’m sure in your own imagination you think it is true. Did you have a bad experience with a union delegate once. I’m listening.

@AximandTheCursed Technically speaking as YouTube is a privately owned company, there is nothing public about it. It censors as it sees fit. I'm sure in your mind you think you are in a public forum but again, your assertions are false and not supported by the data.

@jakeg3733 I completely agree you can’t stop a determined nation from accessing WMD and that’s not my argument. What regulating the nuclear power industry does is ensure its safety and prevents the access of weapons grade uranium to terrorists. You can’t possibly be serious to suggest we reduce these regulations simply to reduce the cost of nuclear energy. You may as well propose that all road and traffic regulations be dropped, no licenses or fees, no vehicle registrations or checks, that would save people money as well.
