Where has the ADF failed? What evidence do you have?

@VK6AB- Retention rates are at normal long term trends. Recruiting is underperforming however this is a result of Liberal governments commercialising Defence recruitment by contracting the process out to private industry, as well factor in low unemployment rates the country has had for the last ten years. Also it was a Liberal government that increased the size of the ADF without a plan to achieve it. Suicide rates within the ADF are significantly lower than the national average. It is only when soldiers separate from defence that the rates go up. Blame Society blame the DVA, but it isn’t the ADF fault.

@VK6AB- Yes that is a perfectly correct observation. Just the barest knowledge of history shows that mass migration (caused by whatever) has led to significant amounts of conflict. Acting alone there is literally nothing the ADF could ever do militarily to assist Taiwan in the event of open hostilities with China. If the US chose to engage we could easily provide military assets to assist, just as we have done since 1945. Read some history. We rearmed , sustained, and replenished significant forces in the Middle East for 20 years and during OP Okra where we crushed ISIS we maintained approximately two squadrons of aircraft, a warship and a battalion of soldiers, I might add on the other side of the world. Armchair generals on Fox News haven’t got one iota of knowledge about the subject.

@VK6AB- Separation rates have declined from a high of 11.6 per cent per annum to 10 per cent, as at 1 February 2024. The size of our Air Force is at a 20-year high.

@VK6AB- I would be interested in the new research about suicide rates in service.
1
@VK6AB- Incorrect. ADF is currently significantly increasing its missle stocks. Purchases have been made contracts signed.
1
@VK6AB- So the 2023 Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) Suicide Monitoring Reoprt has; The rate of suicide for males in the ADF is half that of the age matched average Australian male. If you leave the ADF voluntarily your suicide rate is exactly the same as the average. If you transition out of the ADF for medical reasons then yes there is an increased suicide rate. No difference in the stat's for women in the ADF, however once out their suicide rate doubles. So I have no idea what research you are referring to , but I have explicitly referenced the research I have used.

@VK6AB- You can't blame the ADF for successive failures by both the federal government and local industries to produce munitions of the type and quantity required.
1
@VK6AB- Nope the decisions you talk of are made at NSC level and cabinet.
1
@VK6AB- Here is a perfect example. When it was decided a new medium lift helicopter was required to replace our aging Blackhawks, the Army's choice was the latest version of the Blackhawk. The Howard government chose instead the Tiapian MRH. So don't blame the Army blame the government. Bomber Beazley is to blame for some of the issues regarding the Collins class deficiencies so it goes both ways.
1
@VK6AB- And I understand your pain. Your criticism is fair and balanced. I did 35 years in the Army and enjoyed every minute of it and got out normal and healthy. My experience was positive but I understand that isn't universal so I admit to being biased.
