While I agree it is safe and clean, it is not cheap, it is in fact just about the most expensive way to produce electricity and all the LCOE studies prove this.

@MarcPagan To be fair the US has 61% fossil fuel production, add to that 19% nuc power which we don’t have and we are both at approximately only 20% renewables.

@paulsz6194 Virtually 100% of solar panels are recyclable, companies in Australia are doing it right now. As more transport systems become electrified using green energy what CO2 emissions there are will be dealt with by carbon capture systems. All very simple with current available technology.

@paulsz6194 I never suggested that it was a fully matured technology. There are currently over 20 commercial operations worldwide. Obviously any industry can expand to cater to demand.
1
@paulsz6194 Yes totally agree and it should be in the energy mix, however it is extremely expensive and all the LCOE studies I have read show this. Considerable regulatory efforts are required to maintain safety and prevent weapon proliferation.

@paulsz6194 Chevron currently operates a CCS at their Gorgon liquefied natural gas plant on Barrow Island.

@paulsz6194 Again I completely agree the discussion needs to open about nuclear energy, however Lucas heights is owned and operated by ANSTO and is federally controlled. Any potential future nuclear power industry would be privately owned and operated and therefore can’t be trusted, hence it would require extensive regulatory control to maintain safety standards and prevent illegal activity.

It already accounts for 80% of the electricity produced, with gas just about the rest, how much more would you suggest?
1
Have a guess at how much of the NEM is coal based?
1
75 to 80% so without being offended WTF are you talking about?

@aussiepatriot7989 Do you honestly think I multi billionaire who made his money in computer software really what's to send us back to the stone age. And what part of 80% of electricity produced by coal needs to be brought back?
1
@aussiepatriot7989 What makes you think coal is reliable? One of the reasons gas is so expensive right now is because so far this year 25% of our coal plants have been off-line due to breakdown or maintenance. Your argument doesn't stack up.
