Nationalising Chinese investment would immediately have an effect on all foreign investment. Nobody would risk investing here, it would be economic suicide, it is literally cutting of your nose to spite your face. China is still our biggest trading partner and would again would cause us greater grief than China. We should most definitely move away to other markets India, Indonesia in the mid to long term.

@buildmotosykletist1987 Yes I totally agree the sooner we are disengaged from China the better.

@eb2505 Provide evidence to the WTO about your claims and you might have something.

@brettmitchell6431 Well the claim of graft and corruption and declaring the CCP a criminal cartel in international trade would need to be proven in a court for the WTO to take action. Otherwise it is just a baseless claim and is as easily dismissed. Chinese investment in Australia is conducted under our laws, if you have evidence to the different, present it. I will be first person to then agree with you and kick them out.

@brettmitchell6431 On the separate issue of nationalising Chinese property in Australia is what Communist governments do. It is illegal and the ramifications for Australia and any foreign investment would be huge. Firstly there would be the issue of the $65 Billion Australians invested in China each year, then there would be the Chinese retaliation. Then there would be the company seeking to invest thinking nah too much of a risk it might br nationalised. I am a bit of a free market capitalist and think let the market decide.

@brettmitchell6431 DFAT data has $864 billion Aussie dollars invested in China, so as long as you are prepared for that to be go the second we take their property in your plan off you go.

@brettmitchell6431 Yes that was a mistake it is not 863 or a yearly figure the correct figure is 64, however the principle is still the same and my argument still stands. Communist governments nationalise private assets, and Australia would be hit with all manner of retaliatory actions.
