Having read down through the 40 replies of either the end of capitalism or end of the world, to wild conspiracy theories, is it possible and I'm just spitballing here that just maybe there is and again just maybe a little bit of catastrophising going on. Could this be just another corona virus like we have had before and we treat it like we have diseases in the past by using some minor protective measures, a vaccine, and some anti- viral drugs. There seem to be bunch of snowflakes that are trying to prolong this and they need to harden up to help us get over this and go back to our normal lives.

Your comment borders on the nonsensical. Lockdowns and isolation has worked on numerous occasions in Australia when we have had breakouts. Is "they" one of those wild conspiracy theories?

@terencejay8845 No that is misinformation. Masks work, but to varying degrees. If masks don't work then can you explain why I felt no effect of CS gas when wearing one or why a surgeon wears one when operating. It's not rocket science.

@joechiato5278 My reading of the health data is that although some politicians and commentators are siting anecdotal evidence of mental health issues the fact is there has been no significant increase in suicides during lockdown periods. There has most definitely been an increase in suicides with a surge in the last ten years, but this isn't linked to short term lockdowns.

@terencejay8845 This is just standard strawman logical fallacy argumentation and renders your comment nonsensical. No medical professional has ever suggested mask wearing is 100% effective only that it reduces risk. As for changing advice that is how science works as you gain knowledge you adjust your advice or opinion. You just deal in absolutes and that is just not how real world works, there are lots of grey areas. You have an agenda that you need to stick with, and that's fine, but I prefer to learn.

@terencejay8845 You didn't read my reply or failed to understand it. Yes Dr Fauci initially recommended not wearing masks and he did not say they don't work, that is another strawman (they are piling up). Same for the WHO, as we gather further evidence as any scientist does that adjust their opinion or advice. The CDC just in the last day has recommended mask wearing. Masks are not 100% effective and as you say some are worse than useless, but I doubt this will get through to you as you have formed a fixed opinion and it is not budging no matter what. Me I go with the science.

@terencejay8845 We agree that masks don't provide 100% protection, and I agree with you in some situations I think it is a bit of overkill particularly if you a exercising in the open by yourself, however if you are in close proximity to others like shopping then I think as a consideration for the girl at the checkout I should be wearing a mask to reduce her chances of catching the virus. This isn't just about you it is about others. Copious amounts of hand sanitizer can alleviate the issue about touching the mask and face with your hands and people can be educated, we can all do better.

I had a read down through the comments here and there is a lot of slippery slope augmentation going on which is a logical fallacy. Not only is the original comment nonsensical just about everyone of the 40 replies is as well.

@timothyofcox2450 C'mon really, prisoners don't you think that is just a little overblown. All we are doing is some routine health precautions. It is a bit annoying I'll admit that, and I feel for small businesses, but things will get back to normal.

@timothyofcox2450 There is way to much loaded language in your reply to unpack. What may I ask were you metaphorically speaking about? The mental health of everyone is a concern through these lockdowns and needs to be taken seriously as there has been a rise in this issue, but that needs to be offset with the potential deaths of thousands more from Covid19. It is very difficult situation to manage.

@manishjungkarki1735 The long term effect of vaccines is that since we started using them around 1790 the average life span has almost doubled. There is a significantly greater chance of me dieing in a firery car wreck on the way to do the shopping or a piece of furniture in my home falling on me and crushing me to death. I have had the AZ vaccine, no blood clots here.

Do you have the freedom to kill, or does society lock up in prison and take your freedom away for murder. Exactly the same principle.

@grumpycarlsworld Wrong, smallpox, polio, measles, HPV, have all been eliminated from communities where herd immunity has been achieved through vaccination. Medical technology and vaccines are one of the major reasons why we have doubled the average lifespan in the last 200 years. Your solution is just simplistic and doesn't take into account the most vulnerable in our society.

@simonlevett4776 C'mon you have cited two sources a doctor who advocates for homeopathy and another who is a known conspiracy theorist. I go with peer reviewed scientific papers not books that are written to make money. There is nothing experimental about vaccines they have been working since the late 18th century. The current mix of Covid vaccines developed by various countries have been approved by the drug administrations again of multiple different countries all after extensive human trials. This is not my opinion or my facts they are the accepted facts of the medical community around the world.
