Australia regularly produces food to feed 125 million people even after years of drought, there may be very specific shortages of a small amount of specialist produce, but nobody is going to starve in Australia.

@tun0fun Yes I totally agree there would be a cost and you are right it would be substantial, but that was not my argument. I simply stated the federal government could and would legislate to guarantee food supply to Australians.

As it can with energy any government can legislate to whatever extent it needs to ensure domestic supply. Not an issue. Next concern that isn't?

@tun0fun That’s what legislation does it removes the courts out of the equation. No, contract law does not trump everything. The federal parliament is the ultimate authority. If the courts side with the corporations then parliament changes the law. This is why Australia is called parliamentary democracy.

@tun0fun I agree with all your points however I would like to see a politician on the either floor of parliament stand and argue against a bill that would provide food for Australians. I would suggest to you that would be the end of that particular politicians career.
