Nuclear energy is a statistically safe and reliable means of energy production. It is also relatively clean and waste can be safely taken care of, but it is not cheap. The regulatory controls required to ensure this and the initial capital costs make it the most expensive means of producing electricity.

@user-de6ex4ep1n Sure any LCOE study you can find, US Energy dept information, the latest LAZARD report.

@DanielSMatthews The process required in Thorium SMR requires the thorium to be heavily bombarded with neutrons this has in experiments created leaks that create extra radioactive waste. Also SMRs can be made to spin off U233 which doesn’t need enriching and U233 bombs have been tested and they work. All this means is the industry needs to be carefully and closely monitored and this adds significantly to the cost. Of course in reality businesses go bust and there is no way you can ensure recycling by the manufacturer.

@grannyannie2948 No, for the full term construction to decommissioning LCOE studies show nuclear energy is an expensive way to produce electricity.

@user-de6ex4ep1n Now of course you can drop all the government regulations and controls on nuclear power plants, and then all you have to concern yourself about while your at home trying to get a safe nights sleep is jeez apart from my electricity bill is cheap is where is the waste going, is anyone trained on night shift, how many weapons are being made, I mean the list goes on and on
