@rebbulldesertduke Exactly and it was all borrowed money. How much extra tax are you now prepared to pay, obviously my original comment was an exaggeration but how much are you willing to take out of your pay, 10, 15%?

That's fine but the LNP will go to the next election selling a tax cut and not a single extra cent for defence. Greens want to cut the defence budget and Labour are fairly status quo. Ask a young family if that want less money spent on health and education and I don't like your chances of a positive response. Do you have any idea how much it would cost to build reinforced concrete and steel harbours to house our submarine fleet or the same for the C17 fleet in Amberley? Apart from that If and when you could achieve that, all that means is the Chinese will be forced to through a low yield Nuc at it and bingo instant vapourisation.

@douglasnakamura6753 Happy to cut the $200 billion welfare budget but your suggestion of taking it exclusively from the most disadvantaged has a ring of racism to it. Family tax benefits gone, yep, get rid the the disability pension for everyone, good, no unemployment benefits, sure. Now we have the money to build reinforced concrete bunkers for our defence equipment. I like to see a political party run on that platform!

@douglasnakamura6753 Acknowledging that a certain group of Australians is at a disadvantage to the average is not even remotely racist, just the reality. Also any type of welfare or financial assistance to the indigenous community is also available in a similar form to the rest of the population. I can quote you every statistic regarding health to education to employment to average wage to housing and in every single one of them indigenous people are below the national average. Hence it is only natural they attract a extra slice of the welfare pie.
