@Design_no Yeah I can’t compete with emojis, far too intellectual for me. However Australia has been engaging with NATO since 2005 and has strong military alliance’s with the UK and US, particularly in the Asia pacific region. Along with NATO forces many of our service personnel wear the NATO medal for service in Afghanistan. Your comment bears all the resemblance of total ignorance.

@Design_no So the military support provided by NATO defence forces in Afghanistan to the ADF, which included medical, aviation, fire support amongst others counts for nothing. I didn't say we are part of NATO, but rather we have fought side by side and have military alliances with individual members of NATO along with the 5 eyes security and intelligence sharing. This is why we are at the NATO conference and in 2012 signed a joint political declaration strengthening cooperation. Australia regularly attends NATO foreign minister meetings as well as NATO HQ meetings. Now you might disagree with this bipartisan policy of Labor and Liberal and that is perfectly legitimate, but as it stands at the moment it makes perfect sense for Marles to be there.

All I did was provide factual information. I offered no opinion. As I said you can make a legitimate argument for Australia to move to a neutral Switzerland type geopolitical position, my point was simply that it makes perfect sense for Marles to be there currently and because we are not a NATO member to be in the background for the photo op. I think in regards to Australia going neutral that would be extremely difficult in light of of our history.
