So for all those clowns out there. An Australian aboriginal genome does not exsist and therefore to even propose that a test is possible is scientifically inaccurate. DNA can track genetic ancestry through mother, grandmother and so on, but it is by no means 100% accurate and the small pool of aboriginals in the data base also makes any DNA ancestry unreliable. The indigenous community have a three step process to confirm aboriginality and perhaps these needs to be better policed, but calls for DNA testing isn't racist its just stupid.

@everythingisalllies2141 Your argument about aboriginal genealogy fails completely to take into account the effects of colonisation and past government policies. As well there are cultural and social changes to consider. Your argument is simplistic at best deliberately ignorant at worst.

@Niemand1947 we have genealogical records. They aren't perfect, but along with identification and acceptance, it is a reasonable test for Aboriginality. Non indigenous people lie all the time to illegally gain welfare payments, what's the big deal. You aren't going to get a perfect system, and as explained there is no Aboriginal genome so DNA testing is worse than useless.

@BrucePotter I'm not sure what you are referring to as this discussion is month's old. The general sense I get from reading down through the comments is one of Nazi German like behaviour in calls for mandatory DNA testing (which is just scientifically impossible at this moment in time). This is exactly what the Jews had to put up with in pre WWII Germany. It is no wonder anti-semitism is rife at the moment. First we beat up on the Asians, then the muslims, then the indigenous, and now the jews. In between we blamed Sudanese youths for not being able to go out to a restaurant in Melbourne. Yes I agree with you, racism and bigotry is a problem in Australia.

@ Yes you are correct. To claim a financial benefit from the government you must prove indigenous genealogy, identity as indigenous, and be accepted by a recognised indigenous group. What’s your point?
