WTF. A worldwide shortage of gas caused primarily through the sanctions placed on Russia because of their invasion of Ukraine, sanctions I might add Joyce endorsed as deputy PM has sent the price skyrocketing. Honesty what a stupid comment.

WTF is he on about? A worldwide shortage of gas caused primarily through the sanctions placed on Russia because of their invasion of Ukraine, sanctions I might add he endorsed as deputy PM has sent the price skyrocketing. Honesty what a stupid comment.

@pascalecnto68 what I just said is accurate to a tee. In fairness to the LNP it was the Turnbull government legislation along with the WA government that ensured gas supply but not the price, the price has gone from $10 to $800 a gigajoule. It is meant to be a free market, otherwise if you fix the price then it's taxpayers who cop it in subsidies. I'm a big fan of Gillard and her government achieved some great things but her government decided not to regulate the gas industry.

@stinger15au Russia supplied 40% of the EU gas, what do you possibly mean by relatively small amount!!! Qatar, US and Australia are desperately trying to pick up that shortfall. Basic economics, demand outstrips supply, price goes up.

Why did you delete our discussion, could it be because I showed you were wrong.

Exactly, drawing power from the battery that was fully charged from the solar panels on your roof, costing you buggar all, reducing CO2 emissions and requiring no electricity from the grid.
1
@johngeier8692 The power lines, cables, sub stations, in fact all the infrastructure required to provide electricity all deteriorate and require maintenance and replacement. This year alone 25% of our coal plants have been offline for these exact reasons, what’s your point?
1
@gracecollins8415 What are you talking about? What sanctions?
1
@gracecollins8415 I was aware of all that. Once again what sanctions?
1
Do you mean the various state restrictions on fracking, in which case there are good reasons for these, particularly the destruction on prime farming land. We already export far more gas than we use. The reason gas prices have soared is not a supply issue anyway, it is a demand issue as the EU lost 40% of its supply due to Russian economic sanctions and the demand for our gas went up. It is called the free market deal with it, unless of course you are a socialist and wish to nationalise the economy.
1
@gracecollins8415 I’m confused do you want a free market for gas or do you want the government to control it?
1
@gracecollins8415 None of that answered my question and your rant about the old days is well, a very selective memory. You seem to enjoy socialism and the government owning the means of production so I will go with that as your answer. Not interested in your idea about the olden days, they aren’t coming back.
1
That’s fantastic keep thinking that.
1
80% of our electricity supply is coal. 25% of that has been offline this year due maintenance and repair. Part of the reason gas prices went up so quickly.
1
Could you explain that for me as the cost for east coast wind and solar has remained steady. The price of gas has skyrocketed partly because 25% of east coast coal plants have been offline this year due to maintenance.
1
@coal_man I’m sure you believe that, however all the LCOE studies show solar and wind to be significantly cheaper than fossil fuels, hence why nobody in their right mind will build a coal plant to produce electricity in Australia. One might get built but it will be taxpayers who pay for it.
1
@coal_man Happy to read any reference you can give to renewable energy being 5X cost of coal.
1
@coal_man I'm only going off the LCOE/LCOS data from the US Energy Department but you are just wrong.
1
@coal_man Renewables without battery has in reality and practicality proven to work. Useless is just extreme language with no foundation.
1
@coal_man Just repeating a lie is want Trump does.
1
@coal_man No, it is just you are mouthpiece for an antiquated filthy source of power. So where do we go from here.
1
@pascalecnto68 Oops my apologies, I'll just crawl back into my hole.
1
@stinger15au How much money do you think the gas industry would have invested in Australia if we had of said oh and by the way we are going to regulate the where and when you sell it and what price you are going to be able to charge. Answer is none. What you have described is socialising the gas industry and are you sure you what to go down that road because there will be consequences.
1
@stinger15au I’m sure they do its still socialism, and yes you right all the gas should have remained in the ground.

@UCuEWlNZ6FzY1tyhKVAAqMZw A vacuous statement with no data as evidence just a anecdotal story which is fallacious by nature. 2.3% GDP growth, real wage increases, employment growth, NDIS, NBN, Clean energy bill, Royal Commission into child sex abuse, record legislation passed, all with a minority government. You hard luck story doesn't cut it against hard fact. You are demonstrably wrong.
