@kanderson4417 The government he was part of managed the country through the GFC with continued economic and job growth while the rest of the OCED went backwards. Very short memories people have.

Yes nobody remembers the budget emergency and the inevitable financial collapse warnings the Libs used to gain government in 2013 and then proceeded to spend like drunken sailors themselves to rack up a debt we haven’t seen since WWII. The Libs spent 4 times more in 12 months than Labor spent in 6 years on stimulus.

@Glascam You understand that was because they contested every lower house seat for the first time. In the seats where they previously contested their vote went backwards faster than Russian tank turrets go skyward. They still are under 5% primary vote, but hey miss read the data and draw the wrong conclusions to your hearts content.

All the LCOE studies I have read actually show the opposite, Nuclear energy is one of the most expensive forms of producing electricity.

@Angrybogan Yes all known issues and still all the LCOE studies taking into account all those variables have nuclear energy as one of the most expensive forms of producing electricity. Glibly deriding the regulatory costs due to the possibility of misuse and weapon manufacture is naive.

@Angrybogan Don't be so touchy, I wasn't having a go at you personally only your argument. So now you are confusing LCOE with market forces (demand and supply) for the retail price of electricity. You are comparing apples to oranges. In the US for example Nuclear energy is by far the most expensive electricity producer, but the Federal and state governments subsidise the industry to make it competitive to gas and coal. In Germany they a paying for the huge rise in gas prices. In France the nuclear industry is mostly in public ownership and doesn't necessarily always cover its costs, hence it is subsidised by taxpayers.

@Angrybogan There’s a lot in there I agree with but demonstrably false is the word cheap. Nuclear energy is not cheap. I made no suggestion other types of energy production were not subsidised. I made no comment on the safety, only that to eliminate the chance of weapon proliferation, regulation is expensive and necessary. Once again LCOE studies prove this. Personally I think nuclear energy should be in the mix but don’t think it will be cheap.

@Angrybogan And we reach agreement, in hindsight I should not have described you as naive a different word choice should have been used. I apologise if that offended you.
