Complete rubbish, there were retention bonuses during the late 90s and early 2000s when unemployment was very low. You have know idea of low morale unless you were in the Army in the 80s. Politics has always been an element of Defence. You are just airing your political bias.

@nicolek1676 The Australian Army is better equipped and more capable today than it has been in 60 years. In all my experience the officers and soldiers I worked with were professional and committed. I understand your concerns with BFA but the fact is we were braking too many soldiers at Kapooka and lengthening the period before passing a BFA was a simple fix. If soldiers still couldn't get past that BFA then they were discharged, I saw this happen. You are spot on with the DVA though. I personally refuse to deal with them, but I was lucky getting out relatively fit after 35 years.
