@arnaldo35 seriously your argument is the rise and drop in the fortnightly fuel price cycle. Come back with some serious data analysis.
2
Factually wrong. A reduction in prices paid for goods and services directly causes inflation to be reduced.
1
Nobody said that. The ABS data for the last quarter has food and non alcoholic beverages rise by 0.5%. The ABS collect data from all states cities and regions and it is an average figure.
1
@lynettemahoney1710 You didn't understand my comment. Furnishings, household equipment and services all came down 1% and Education 0.1%. So yes some things did come down in price. I have no borrowings and own my home , so as far as the weight the CPI gives to these household expenditures, I am fortunate and admit that. Yes grocery has gone up, but this is an effect of all the flooding on our agricultural industry and is not the government's fault.
1
@lynettemahoney1710 Floods in Victoria have also effected the agricultural industry. Yes post Covid with the supply chain issues the supermarket duopoly in this country have taken advantage to boost profits. There are currently multiple investigations into their pricing. The RBA has admitted that an unusual spurt of above average immigration levels had an inflationary effect, but not related to food prices.
1
@lynettemahoney1710 CPI data comes from the ABS. Albo has nothing to do with it. If you are attributing the entire inflationary effect of demand supply issues related to post Covid to Labor policies to are sadly mistaken. The entire OCED suffered inflation after Covid and the data says it’s coming down. Australia wasn’t the only country to suffer inflation in the last couple of years. It’s your bias that is obviously clouding your uninformed opinion.
1
Labor don’t need to prove anything, the data is collected by an independent body called the ABS.
1
@infidel202 The ABS is a legislated independent body that merely collects data and presents it to the public. It is illegal for the government to manipulate it in any way. I’m sure you are happier with your incel RWNJ WEF conspiracy theories. Good luck with those.
1
Yes it is. The price of fuel has fallen 2.5% that means it costs less. Your comment is just completely wrong and shows a staggering lack of economic knowledge.
1
@nato4287 That's your argument? What if you don't spend money on a particular item. I don't rent. I don't owe money. I don't smoke. So by your ridiculous argument I don't have any inflation concerns. Try and formulate a logical argument.
1
@brothermaynard3200 OMG are you seriously suggesting that house prices don’t rise and fall or interest rates go up and down. How economically naive are you. A combination of falling house prices and interest rates has happened in the past and can happen again. Food prices vary widely due to supply and demand. Think lettuce and bananas, I mean how short is your memory? Alcohol is heavily taxed so is an unfair comparison and healthcare costs have come down in previous CPI reports.
1
@brothermaynard3200 So now your argument is the cost of housing in 1950 was less than it is today and that’s the governments fault. Yep blame Albo. The RBA Governor and the government accepts that a immigration spurt post Covid (where immigration was zero) contributed to inflation but it is senseless to ignore the supply/demand issues relating to the supply chain problems post Covid and the increased fuel costs due to the war in Ukraine. There was no public policy decision to increase immigration it happened naturally, but I agree the government should have been more aware of the situation. However without immigration this country is going backwards. Taylor Swift rocks.
1
@arnaldo35 That was an average price across the entire country over the last reported quarter as provided by the ABS.
1
@Hope-bc9yg Inflation is down the RBA declares the economy is looking good, employment is strong, economic growth is on the up and you are locked into your RWNJ idiotic talking points. It as if your tongue is firmly logged in Matt Caravans backside.
1
@ulagatin No you are factually incorrect. In the last ABS CPI report on Inflation the price of furnishings, household equipment and services fell 1.0%, transport went backwards 0.2% and education costs dropped 0.1%, so no your entire comment was fallacious nonsense.
1
@ulagatin No a banana costs $1 last week and this week it costs 25 cents. That is a price decrease and is the equivalent of your car going backwards or rolling back down the hill because you didn’t apply the brake.
1
I already understand inflation in the overall sense, and of course reducing inflation that is still positive of course means prices overall are still increasing as the ABS data is over a wide range of goods and services. My point was simply that amongst that group of goods and services some individuals items most certainly were negative.
1
@ulagatin yes I know. That was not my argument. My point was solely that some individual items do go negative. Deflation in economic terms is generally not a good thing.
1
@ulagatin Yes and those items that are in a the basket are weighted. There are probably only a dozen or so countries in the world without a Reserve/Central bank which one would you recommend over Australia?
1
Seriously cede sovereignty to a UN agency. What is truely nuts is believing wild conspiracy theories.
