Hey does anybody remember Scotty from Marketing and his gas led recovery. How ridiculously stupid does that sound now.

A couple of errors there. For years Australian had artificially low gas prices as the industry only supplied the local market and the price was capped. There was no increase in demand. It was only when the federal government deregulated the market and encouraged investment in gas exploration and production for export gas did the price soar.

@bossybill7437 As explained in the previous comment Australia had an enclosed market for gas with a set price and there was no increased consumption. Your comment was factually incorrect.

@bossybill7437 No there is absolutely no supply problem at all. Australia took over from Qatar as the largest exporter of gas in the world. To do this we deregulated our domestic market to allow gas companies to invest and sell on the world market where they can attract a lot more than they can domestically. A gas company is not going to sell there product for a significantly cheaper price here when they can export it for a much larger profit.

@bossybill7437 I haven’t got a clue why explaining the situation with gas price and supply in clear language requires you to accuse me of being deceptive. Its not my problem your understanding of gas market forces is wrong.

You will have to explain that and provide some evidence. The cost of renewables has remained stable and the percentage of power generation by renewables has not significantly increased in the last 12 months.
