@sidecarmisanthrope5927 Service personal perform those functions to above civilian standards every day of the week. They have fire personnel on all RAAF bases, Army nurses regularly deploy overseas to provide care, and Navy police conduct policing duties on all RAN bases.

@sidecarmisanthrope5927 You didn’t put a lot of thought into that comment. When our aircraft deploy overseas Airfield defence guards protect them on the ground and the airfields they use. Our ships regularly port overseas and need protection as well. All contract security does is staff and patrol domestic bases.

Yes that’s exactly the point. Nuclear powered subs with a range like no other weapons system this country has ever possessed gives Australia a truely offensive capability.
