@Neil-yg5gm And my point is so what? You seem to think simply being debt free is something to aspire to. I know a drug addicted homeless bloke, he is debt free. On the other hand a family of four with two working parents, kids in primary school have a debt of hundreds of thousands on a home mortgage, and you what to be the drug addicted homeless bloke.

@Neil-yg5gm sorry I didn't mean that, only that government debt can be a good thing, and it can be unsustainable. Most economists agree governments can run 60 to 70% debt to GDP easily and we aren't near that. Lots of OECD countries run higher debt ratios with no problems. Back to my household analogy owning money on a house or a car is not bad, borrowing money to go to the casino, that is bad.
