@AnAls AWOL Technically speaking the Collins class once equipped with Tomahawk would be able to carry nuclear weapons as could have the cancelled Attack class.

@DanielSMatthews Just humour me for a bit. What makes a SSN invulnerable to mines? Also a SSK is significantly quieter than a SSN and has other advantages. Yes a SSN range is only limited by its ability to sustain its crew, but a SSK would have advantages in sustainability and flexibility in port facilities. It really isn’t as black and white as you paint it. In defence there really isn’t that much in it. The big difference is a SSN gives you a significant increase in offensive capability. This to me is the major factor that in my opinion not enough discussion and debate was given to. We really needed a White paper.
