The US has at least one Virginia class in reserve plus numerous Los Angles class. I expect these will be what we get. The UK may have some decommissioned Trafalgar class that could be used. The government hasn't put much thought into this so who knows!

@leonidasthermopylae3378 I only meant in a transition type arrangement. We have trained submariners and the weapon and sensor systems they would already be familiar with, but yes propulsion systems would require significant training. We will get our own, a LA or Trafalgar class would only be a interim measure.

@Madame702 That is a false statement. The French offered us the Barracuda class, we knocked it back. The same numptys sitting around the table who decided to take a Nuc boat and turn it into a desiel/electric 5 years ago are the same numptys there now who decided Nuc boats are what we need. A Defence white paper 12 years ago identified the need for more subs so the clowns who made this decision 5 years ago have no excuse other than stupidity.
