Who said anything about race? You raised race. Why did you mention race? A voice is about the original inhabitants. They are the same race as you, the human race.

@maureenpeterson2 what race? Provide the evidence there is more than one species of humans that exsists?

@derekhowells8371 So clearly you have no understanding of difference between race (of which there is only one human species) and cultural groups (of which there are numerous). Race is social construct created artificially by some people for purposes I don't understand, and I will leave it at that.

@derekhowells8371 Imaginary in the sense race doesn't exist, YES. White supremacist hate groups obviously exsist and yes cultural groups are deliberately targeted for all manner of reasons, lots of times simply because of the colour of their skin or shape of their eyes or their diet or their religious persuasion. Most often this seems to be based on a perception that one owns group is superior to all others. I'm surprised this has to be explained I thought it was fairly common knowledge.

@sharongoodsell9341 Yes I will agree culturally I get a sense of that and I respect that as seeing as we came here and forced a different culture upon them I'm willing to give the original inhabitants a bit of a go. A modest request to have a say in a constitution that ignored them and legislation and policies that for the most part of the 20th century treated them as barely human. Your comment reeks of white privilege.
1
@sharongoodsell9341 Yes I understand. I am willing to embrace diversity, others are not.

So an indigenous person in the 1950s was counted in which census. Who did an indigenous person vote for in the 1930s federal elections. How many RSLs allowed full membership to returning indigenous soldiers from WWII? Learn a bit about Australian history before making such ridiculously stupid comments.

@derekhowells8371 Are you deliberately being obtuse? Almost universally the indigenous community have asked the nation for a conversation (Uluru statement from the heart) and asked a modest request that the indigenous community itself says will go a long way to remedy the racism of the past. So not only is my point valid it obviously annoyed you enough to expose your opinion.
