Actually you are factually incorrect. As a percentage of GDP Labor is spending less than the Morrison government and on par for the Howard government.

Ok so just a dose of reality here. Prior to the 70s federal spending as a percentage of GDP was around 25% since then through a succession of Liberal and Labor governments it has been around 30%. Federal spending now is no worse than under the Howard government.

@totalsceptic no that is a false statement. Two Labor budgets have been surplus and not contributed a cent to the deficit.
1
@totalsceptic Nobody is cooking anything. Surplus budgets don’t necessarily mean a reduction in the overall deficit as interest grows on the accumulated deficit budgets of the Morrison/Turnbull/Abbott/Gillard/Rudd governments. I have fallen for no spin, you just don’t understand federal budgets and interest payments.
1
@ No. Under Abbott/Turnbull/ Morrison the Libs ran the debt up over 9 years by approximately $650 billion. Rudd and Gillard ran up about $280 billion in their 6 years. Under the current Labor government the debt has increased by about $60 billion, but this wasn’t spending it was interest on the debt spending by previous governments. Now you can make an argument the current government should have paid some of the debt down and technically added to it by not doing so, but you can’t say they increased the debt more than the previous LNP government.
1
@totalsceptic If you mean the total debt then yes by about $60 billion in interest payments, but not spending. The previous LNP added $600 billion in spending. So no Labor has not increased the debt anything like the previous LNP government.

Manufacturing is done by robots, actual human jobs are buggar all.

@Cobber2023 Rudd and Gillard added $280 billion to the deficit, Abbott/Turnbull/Morrison added $600 billion. The last two budgets have been surplus so Albo hasn’t added a cent to the deficit.
