No vaccine has ever been developed that is 100% effective. This is why although the first vaccines for Smallpox were developed in the late 18th Century it wasn't till the mid 20th century it was eliminated, also even with the polio vaccines developed in the early 60s there are still some small pockets of polio existing in Pakistan and Afghanistan today. Flu vaccines are not 100% effective as the virus mutates. What we do know for sure is the data tells us if you are vaccinated your chances of catching Covid are reduced and the severity of the symptoms is significantly lessened. If you had cancer would you deny yourself treatment because the doctor advised you it is not 100% guaranteed to cure you?

@grannyannie6744 The reason is because by everyone having a harmless vaccine hopefully eventually we will achieve immunisation.

@dontbelieveeverythingyouth8173 I'm not trying to gaslight anyone, but when you say they have been who exactly do you mean?
1
@ilguitaro Isolating people when they get the virus is just a simple means by which you can slow the rate of infection, there's nothing complicated or sinister about it.

@grannyannie6744 A sore arm, a bit of a cough, some fatigue for a day, that's about it. The AZ vaccine did cause in a incrediblely small percentage compared to how many doses given blood clotting but compare that to women who suffer the same from the contraception pill and it is insignificant. A 1000 people a day are still dieing in the US from covid, I mean really get a grip.
1
@grannyannie6744 5.48 million deaths to date and currently over 7000 deaths a day worldwide and you cherry pick one unfortunate tragic case of a possible side effect which even if I grant is absolutely true proves what? A classic case of biting your nose off to save your face.

@ilguitaro I one ear out the other. As I said previously the vaccine doesn't guarantee 100% effectiveness none of the manufacturers claimed that. It will reduce the seriousness and morbidity rates. Finally you have read one dystopian novel to many. Authoritarianism really, every single state government and the federal government is trying to get things back to normal as quick as possible. Mind you though I hope you have stocked up on canned food in your buried shelter in the backyard.

@ilguitaro Generally speaking paranoid conspiracy theorists don't have much of a sense of humour and thankyou for your kind words regarding my mother. I won't Gish Gallop here so essentially your first reply to my comment was a collection of anecdotal fallacies making the whole comment nonsensical. Your second comment is full of false and misleading data. You don't seem to understand how vaccines work and how the effectiveness varies over time for initial jab to years down the track. Read some scientific studies on this for a better understanding. Pfizer own marketing literature only claims 93% effectiveness for the first month and waned to 67% at 5 months. Do you actually believe TV news channels or shows to provide you with accurate information? Essentially your second comment is nonsensical as well as it contained composition, false cause, red herring fallacies. There were others but I'll leave it there.

@ilguitaro Let's talk mortality rates in the US. In 2020 when deaths from Covid really kicked off the overall mortality rate in the US increased 17.7%. Covid was the third leading cause of death behind heart disease and cancer. In 2020 3358814 deaths were recorded 345323 of these were covid related. That was more than all the suicides, kidney disease, influenza, pneumonia, diabetes deaths combined. The 345323 additional covid deaths in the US actually contributed to the average life expectancy in the US falling by 1.5 years. US life expectancy hasn't gone backwards since WWII. If the Australian state and federal governments had not taken the actions they did in instituting isolation and lockdown protocols and encouraging the population to get vaccinated then using the US as a guide proportionally we would have had hypothetically 64000 deaths from covid in 2020 and another 64000 last year. Every piece of data you provided was designed to obfuscate. Also make your mind up either quote the TV news as fact or call it propaganda, which is your actual position, you did both.
1
@ilguitaro Actually the data about the Pfizer vaccine was a study conducted by the Mayo clinic a completely independent not for profit medical institution in the US and one of the most prestigious in the world, but I'm sure your Facebook data is just as reliable.
1
@ilguitaro You are the one who raised the issue of deaths per day in the US with a useless statistic. I gave that stat some context and meaning and you then accuse me of changing the subject and offering some analysis. So which is it? Do you wish to discuss Covid related deaths or 17th French pottery? Happy to do either, but you need to focus on one or the other.
1
@ilguitaro The CEO of Pfizer today admitted their vaccine may not be much good against the Omicron variant. This doesn’t fit particularly well with your conspiracy theories
1
@ilguitaro I totally agree with your data on co-morbidity as with disease it is rarely one single thing that fails or causes death, that doesn’t mean that fit healthy people have not died from Covid. Obviously as Covid has overwhelmed the health systems worldwide other health issues have had their resources stretched and you have Covid to blame for that. Get vaccinated, wear a mask, and socially distance, it’s not hard.
1
@ilguitaro Here in Australia unlike the rest of the world due to actions taken by our governments our mortality rate has actually dropped in the last two years. Less people have died than normally. So complain all you like the runs are on the board.
1
@ilguitaro interesting once again you switch from US mortality rates to world mortality rates. So let's have a look at mortality rates worldwide since 1950. Now that's a nasty coincidence, deaths per 1000 had been falling consistently since 1950 till guess what year? Yep 2019 and has grown in 2020 and 2021 each year by approx .44%. So just as a pandemic hits more people start dieing, to me that's just commonsensical, but I'm sure you will find some grand conspiracy in there somewhere. Your data from WHO is only up to the 2019, it doesn't include the deaths from Covid which at over 5 million puts it up into the top 5 cause of death worldwide in 2020 and 2021.
1
@ilguitaro I have no love of Pharmaceutical companies as they have been making extraordinary profits and claiming research as a large cost when in actual fact it is a small cost to their overall expenditure, but it is a big stretch to then suggest a Pharmaceutical/medical/WHO/government conspiracy. Once again you misrepresent the science of vaccines of which there are at least 3 distinctly different types.
1
@ilguitaro If taking a vaccine, wearing a mask, and social distancing means a little child with brain cancer has a slightly better chance of survival then I'm willing to suffer a minor loss of a few personal freedoms for a short period of time. The idea of medical staff remaining covid free is fairly simple, to assist in keeping that little child with leukaemia alive best not breath covid all over her, or have the staff who prepare her meals not cough covid all over her weetbix. It's about behaving responsible to enable the less fortunate in our society a half decent chance.

@ilguitaro Hey nobody is going to get between me and my Ballistic Hawaiian hazy pale ale. Seriously though I think people's lives were effected enough by lockdowns as reflected in the increase in mental health issues. Preventing alcohol sales I agree would do the country's health a world of good, but I think a step too far in restricting personal freedom.
1
@ilguitaro Well no so much emotional just emphasising the need for hygiene in a hospital and why it is important if someone who is being treated for one thing doesn’t end up dying of another, which does happen in hospitals but we try and prevent it. Yes I could never understand the toilet paper thing either, but generally speaking people are concerned and some yes I agree are scared particularly as you mentioned they may have other health issues. All the stats show Covid has lowered life expectancy and raised death rates. Your solution to just let it rip, is in my opinion not what constitutes a civil society.
