@TheTaipan Don’t get me wrong I have no objections to nuclear power as it can be safe and reliable and the waste can be managed, but most definitely not cheaply. Every LCOE study I have read has wind and solar significantly cheaper than nuclear so much so that you can build significantly excess capacity and still be cheaper. In France and the US the nuclear industries are heavily subsidised by the taxpayer. The French nuclear industry is in hoc to the tune of 40 billion euros. Also without significant regulation (which is expensive) there is the risk of weapon proliferation.

What everyone is missing is weapon proliferation. You can make weapon grade material from SMRs. To prevent illegal use will require regulation and that costs. Nuclear can be safe and reliable but cheap it is not.

@TheTaipan Duttons not serious neither is the LNP. They know the economics don’t work. They had 9 years to do something and did jack shit. Dutton is just using it as a political wedge.
