Currently our Submarines regularly dock in Darwin. You can see them from Stokes Hill wharf tied up to a buoy in the middle of the harbour. Navy tenders then transport anything to HMAS Darwin.

Why would a nuc sub dock in Darwin? or Newcastle? The two potential locations for our nuc subs are HMAS Stirling in Perth and a newly built facilities at Wollongong. There would literally be no need for any of our subs to dock there, in fact it would be tactically and strategically unwise.

@libatalklieb5793 I didn’t want to humiliate him but not a single Chinese soldier or airplane has ever landed in Darwin. Now we have something like 2500 US marines regularly rotate through Darwin on a yearly basis. I’ve worked with them and they are fine soldiers and having them in Australia is in my opinion a very good thing.

@bluebell-s4e That’s not good. I had a couple of mates and a few blokes I knew take their own lives. It is very sad. At a time of very low unemployment it is always hard for the military to keep its numbers up. As well the previous government increased the overall size of the ADF without a clear plan as to how that was going to be achieved. Maybe I was lucky but I found my 35 years in the Army extremely rewarding. I apologise I should’ve mocked your comment the way I did.

@libatalklieb5793 Yes I’m not blind to US foreign policy and we use the Yanks as much as they use us.

@bornyesterday1895 1. Submarine medical staff are well trained, but yes in any emergency a submarine can offload a person without the need at all to port. 2. The Chinese already know the external dimensions and characteristics of Virginia and Astute class SSNs. 3. The CCP navy already is attempting to track all Western navies submarines. They already have an idea of their noise signature. 4. The port in Darwin does not have the capacity to access technical data/characteristics of SS or SSNs. 5. I agree we should be a little more cleverer on how we decide who owns our major infrastructure.

@petremitrov Factually incorrect. All Australian Navy nuclear powered submarines will be crewed and commanded by Australian Navy personnel and will take their orders from Canberra. You a attempting to spread misinformation F%^k off.

@bluebell-s4e Australian regular Army loses approximately 10% every year. Currently the separation rate it is at 13%. That equates to about 3000 soldiers every year. I’m not sure what point you were trying to make but your facts are completely wrong.

@bornyesterday1895 The only thing I can contribute in your situation is that perhaps and I don’t know this as a fact I’m only spit balling, that defence has been stung by blokes in your situation in the past. I agree it is a pisser.
