@mk1479 No amount of National service would provide a sufficiently large military to intimidate or influence Chinese policy. Secondly, have you any idea how much it would cost to train and equip these additional troops. Once trained how do you envisage continuation training to occur, I mean I could go on for hours about the holes in your plan. Let alone the idea that people be chosen first by their political views, so I can safely assume you were joking, because the whole idea is hysterically funny.

@mk1479 So the current ADF budget is $49 billion. Currently our economy is $2.2 trillion. The Chinese economy is about $19 trillion with a Defence budget of $225 billion. To match that we would have to spend literally a third of our federal budget on Defence. So are you willing to give up virtually everything you own and your entire standard of living on a maybe bet of a possible future conflict. Yeah I didn't think so.
