109 of them are missiles boats with the range of about as far as I can hit a golf ball and wouldn't survive a decent burst of 50 cal. @127cmore Yes I saw recently how well constructed their apartment blocks are made for their own people as they had to be demolished as unsafe.

The attack class would have been cutting edge technology. The Suffern class which the Attack is based on just entered service. You clearly know nothing about current submarine design or manufacture.

Technically speaking you could use a ICE using green hydrogen that was produced by solar energy that would recharge the lithium ion batteries. You should put your idea to the Navy. Your a genius

@glynnwright1699 I totally agree. I'm pretty sure not a lot of actual thinking about the defence of Australia went into this decision and more thought was put into Scotty from marketing making a feel good publicity stunt just out from an election.

@duncancallum I suspect in the end the Chinese government will intervene to stablize the economy, otherwise thier shipbuilding will be effected by a collapsed GDP.

OK everybody take a chill pill. This isn't about which sub or technology is better. SSN have certain qualities and SSK have certain qualities. When we purchased the Attack class it gave us a certain level of strategic capability we had never had. There was its range approx 11000k and a cruise missile capability. The French offered us the SSN Suffern class but we declined due to our inability to refuel it. Now that we have access to the Rolls Royce engines in the Astute class the government changed its mind as we don't have to refuel it. This was the third time I might add it changed its mine (bunch of arseclowns, but that is just opinion) There was nothing wrong with the attack class and even the UK navy is now lamenting the lose of their SSK capability as they are perfect for hunting SSNs in home waters. If this is truly our final decision and a change of government next year could throw it all up in the air again, it had nothing to do with submarines and all to do with Scotty from Marketing putting on a show for the CCP.

m n G'day. No I was fully aware of this, and in this forum i assumed a level knowledge so that I didn't need to point it out, my mistake but it was not intended to deceive. I made a general comment on the politics of our decision making, not on the issue of obtaining a nuc engine as the Poms and yanks have already told us they will do so what China sells Iran, Australia can do FA about, the US might though. You are obviously not Australian and are unaware of the politics, but there is buckleys of Australia having a Nuc industry, certainly not in the short or medium term and is ludicrous to suggest so. As I mentioned it is not my opinion it is fact Australia knocked back the French SSN because as I explained we could not refuel it, this is not opinion it is fact. In my comment I was taking the piss out of the government and was completely subjective opinion and as such worthless, as is yours about our and the US governments motives or objectives it is absolute conjecture and just as worthless.
