What a ridiculous comment. As ex ADF myself, vaccinations were a regular part of Army life. I don’t think there was a year that went by when I wasn’t vaccinated for something. I very much doubt to authenticity of your comment.

@Mal-r5q The JAV for Timor was the worst for me. Three jabs over a month as I remember maybe two months either way jeez they made me crook. I remember even having unnecessary flu injections just so the medics could practice. I don’t think there was a vaccination I didn’t have.

Absolute rubbish. ADF has gone through this before when unemployment was so low.

So the ADF changed policy years ago. 3 years postings and back to back in location so potentially 6 years in the same location. This was at least the policy when I got out in 2017. Army first family second. I accepted this when I joined and yes my family suffered, suck it up. It’s called sacrifice.

@stevewiles7132 I did 35 years in the Army and the Army took care of my family and myself almost perfectly. When I deployed my wife was personally contacted and offered support and my families needs were always considered in all my postings. This simply couldn’t be just my luck. I wouldn’t change a single thing in 35 years.

@macka9999 Don't relate serving your country to how the DVA treat serving or ex service members. Two different issues. I too had a few blokes I knew kill themselves. Just for your information though there is currently a Royal Commission under way into ADF suicide both serving and ex, and this Commission is taking a very close look at DVA. Hopefully there will be some positive action taken.

@justinhollis5579 I fully respect your decision, take care of yourself.

Provide the data to support your unsubstantiated claim. I know of no data whatsoever that supports your claim. In fact the opposite appears true. The US Military has studies that show there has no been effect on capability by introducing diversity. In fact when President Truman signed an executive order to integrate African Americans into the military post WWII the US gained significant capability. Your comment is bigoted stupidity.

No way in the world were you a veteran. No veteran would disrespect the country with such a ludicrously stupid comment as yours.

@Nathan-ry3yu Thankfully so.

@justinhollis5579 That's disappointing to hear. Then was one time I was out bush and somehow my daughter locked herself in the bathroom and my wife contacted the Guardroom and the DO sent a couple of blokes out who got in through the bathroom window and unlocked the door. We all looked out for each other in my time, far more so than any other work environment I know of. Sorry to hear your experience was different.

@justinhollis5579 The story about my daughter was pre 2000 but the support for my family was as late as 2012. In fact without going into boring detail due to certain family circumstances my unit went out of its way to ensure my posting requirements were attended to by my CM. It meant my service obligations were limited. Many times my daughter came to work with me and my work place coped. I’m not suggesting this would be possible in all units, and again I’m saddened to hear you were not supported, but I honestly can’t complain at all about the treatment I got in 35 years in the Army. I retired a WO and was just an average soldier.

@stephenbarley9463 Sometimes the price to fight for democracy and freedom is very high. Some are prepared to sacrifice.

@drewsale7288 Yes and I didn’t suggest it was. Pay is an issue, and the government has already attempted to address this with sign on bonus payments. This was done years ago around about the mid 90s as I remember (happy to be fact checked on this). I can’t remember exactly when but Angus Houston was CDF at the time and I remember he gave a presentation at Holsworthy and someone asked him if bonus payments could be offered again and his response was a firm NO, he explained the government at that time would of laughed in his face if he had gone to them with that recommendation. Can’t remember who was in government (again I’m sure someone can check the timeline as to who was in government when Houston was CDF). Family stability is another significant factor these days. Regular postings considering most families have both parents working is severely disruptive if you have to move every 3 to 6 years.
1
@drewsale7288 Actually my understanding is diversity in the US military has significantly increased its capabilities. Data shows that the progressive policies post WWII in integrating African Americans in the military significantly increased the war fighting capabilities of the US military. At the time the US was segregated and President Truman ordered the military to integrate. This was hugely controversial at the time and heavily criticised, many said it was the end of an effective US military. Sounds idiotic now.

@Willberight2moro well he was a sociopath.
1
@Willberight2moro You dimwit. An Army needs its sociopaths, they do most of the killing for us. If you had even the remotest idea or iota of knowledge of the subject you would know this. In no way was my comment derogatory. Smith was a killer a finely tuned killer who was hosed over by the generals and the politicians. That doesn’t mean he isn’t guilty of war crimes, just that he was at the bottom of a very tall ladder. Wake up a do some reading. I did 35 years half on the line half in support. I feel sad for Smith but my feelings are irrelevant. Smith is still a sociopath.

@moystonadv3651 Our Special Forces are indeed the finest soldiers anywhere in the world. I was proud to work with them in merely a support role I might add, but by god they are good.
1
@stevewiles7132 Yes the Navy suffered badly when most shore based support roles were civilianised. Very difficult for young families I totally agree. My understanding is the Navy has learned from this and try as much as they can to give sailors some relief from constant ship postings, but it is very hard to manage.

@purebloodnordicroamer7955 And your qualifications in immunology are? Because your argument is illogical. You accepted all the other vaccines while in the military but not the Covid-19 vaccine. All the data shows clearly the Covid 19 was effective, was it perfect no, and no immunologist ever said it would be. You have just succumbed to the conspiracy theories and ludicrous misinformation that was put out there. It is not your fault.
1
@throughput6674 when you signed on you accepted that being vaccinated was part of the job. So he accepted all the other vaccines just not one he decided was a clot shot. His argument is illogical nonsense. To be operationally ready for deployment means being fully vaccinated for any eventuality. Many of these vaccinations could be considered unnecessary if a soldier didn’t deploy.

Straight out disinformation. No ex ADF you disrespect their country with such a ludicrously stupid comment. Disloyalty in the extreme.
