@450tank Please explain why costings cant be calculated. A political ban has literally nothing to do with estimating a cost. Multiple organisations have provided costings.

@450tank There are multiple studies conducted on rhe cost of electricity production. Look online for LAZARDS LCOE study or the CSIRO gencost LCOE study. Both are independent studies, with little influence from the renewable or nuclear power industry.

@450tank So read the reports yourself, but as a guide. $/MWh nuclear comes in around $141 to $221 and wind $24 to $75 unsubsidised. So as you can see wind is significantly cheaper, but there are other considerations. Nuclear can certainly be clean and green with regulation but the idea it can be cheap is nonsensical garbage. Almost every where in the world it is heavily subsidised by governments.

@450tank Read LAZARDS LCOE report or the CSIRO gencost LCOE report. Both are independent reports.

@450tank They are generalised costs and in $US. There is a huge experience worldwide with the production of electricity from nuclear. I'm sure Australian industry would be far more efficient and clever than the Japanese or US nuclear industry in reducing cost, but by how much?

@450tank So that's just a ridiculous assertion made without a shred of evidence. I quoted two independent studies and knowledge gained from the construction of nuclear power plants from around the world. I honestly thought you were interested in a serious discussion. How wrong I was.
1
@450tank Firsty yes there is federal legislation preventing any nuclear power industry, but there is also state legislation in place as well. So there are two big hurdles to overcome. Neither of which stop, negate, or prevent the nuclear industry from providing a cost. Nuclear plants have been built all around the world and we can get an extremely good estimate of the average cost of these plants and the time frame to build them. All you have is a fallacious argument from ignorance. It doesn’t fly.

No not all our politicians are saying they are to expensive. The Llberal and National party federally both claim it can be done cheaply.
1
@450tank No it isn’t. Multiple studies are available that give an accurate estimate of how much it will cost.
1
@450tank I don’t know ask him. I have already provided the costings based on independent studies which clearly show nuclear is significantly more expensive than renewables.
1
@450tank It takes around 6 to 8 years to build a nuclear reactor. That’s the average construction time globally. Reactors can be built very quickly: some have been built in just 3 to 5 years. Some have long over-runs, spanning multiple decades.
1
@450tank Well that's a bit harsh as I would describe my input as a discussion and I provided no opinion only publicly known facts. It is a coincidence that just today the CSIRO issued a gencost report on nuclear energy which showed apples to apples nuclear costs double that of renewables. $8.6 billion and 15 years for just one plant. Read the report and all your questions are answered.
