@After_Pasta Nobody is talking about the British giving us anything. The Bristish have already agreed to give us the technology and Australia can just hook into the end of the production line and not effect the Bristish Navy procurement at all.

Then why didn’t he do it when he was in power?

A submarine can move that missile thousands of kilometres off shore and deliver it stealthy. Land based missiles are limited by range and more prone to counter diction and we don’t have or expect to have aircraft capable of delivering a cruise missile.
3
And are incapable of delivering them to our shores, what’s your point?
2
I reckon you are right it has a slightly smaller crew and we could hook in at the end of their production line.

@andrewmckenzie292 Yes that’s what I said. The rest is just subjective conjecture.
1
@xpusostomos To be fair you have created a strawman. China isn’t even remotely capable of mounting the fleet you suggest.
1
@andrewmckenzie292 All good. I think we are all in general agreement. China = bad.
1
@TheRealBobSmith. Are you suggesting that China would launch a nuclear missile attack on mainland Australia without consequences? In what possible hypothetical scenario could you even imagine that happening?
1
@jessmarks2214 If you have kids then get them into the Navy. With submarine allowance and sea going allowance on top of there normal trade pay, just your basic sailor is on close to six figures after only a year or two of training.

Have already have big guns, 120mm artillery and will soon acquire rocket artillery.
1
12 conventionally powered subs would have been sufficient for defence purposes
1
@hc3657 I agree, crewing 10 subs will be a challenge
1
@laosasean8482 Due to the absolutely deplorable record of human rights and democracy in the Asian region it needs a decent cop.
1
@laosasean8482 The level of racism and discrimination against Australia's indigenous peoples has truly been horrendous. However High court decisions and continuing gains politically and socially shows demonstratively that this issue is being addressed. Your argument is fallacious.

@advanceaustralia3321 As opposition spokesperson he has the authority of shit. His government, the previous government had 9 years and decided nothing. He has about as much authority as any of the commentators here. No let me more specific, your comments show significantly more insight into this subject than he does.

The latest report to the US congress apparently paints a picture of the US unable to complete its own SSN construction deadlines as well as a delay in their maintenance program. There is two fifths of fuck all of Australia getting a Virginia class sub out of the US.
