  1. National debt is separate to annual budgets. Deficit or surplus budgets add or subtract the national debt. Some of this surplus budget will be used to reduce our national debt.

  2. @jmcham1000  How is the facts a snake oil answer. Since the end of the Howard government way back in 2007 successive governments both Labor and LNP have run deficit budgets (which isn't necessarily a bad thing). To eliminate or reduce the national debt one or two surplus budgets isn't going to do it, you would need multiple years. Australia's ratio of debt to GDP is only about 30% which is perfectly manageable and not a concern. If you don't understand this, buy yourself an economics textbook.
