How pathetic to have such a low opinion of Australian industry. The Collins class subs certainly had some initial issues but is now acknowledged as one of the finest conventional submarines in service and were Australian made.

@raygale4198 I'm obviously not on the in, but my understanding is that the maintenance issues and particularly the ones you mentioned were identified well over 10 years ago. It is secret what the availability rate is of our submarine fleet be it good or bad and anyway we are talking about spilt milk. The plan as laid out in today's "The Australian" seems to be very practical, in that it gets a fast as possible a nuc sub under our flag in the water and then a plan to have a fleet of the most modern and complex weapons systems in the water for our future protection. Personally I think both the LNP and Labor have done the best they can.

@PlaYer-sn5or yeah right. Bolivia and Paraguay will be standing first in line.

@raygale4198 The maintenance issues on the Collins class is well known. I never suggested they were perfect. Their availability has been below industry standard, however when in the water they are a excellent platform.

@PlaYer-sn5or Oh yeah Argentina will be right up there spending its Pesos buying nucs.

@PlaYer-sn5or Yep that’s right, Syria with all its wealth will be first in line to purchase a fleet of Kilo class attack subs.

@PlaYer-sn5or Do you really think the Iranian leadership are sitting around a conference table tonight discussing procuring a SSN fleet because Australia is getting one?
1
@PlaYer-sn5or So if your answer is always then Australia’s actions are irrelevant and your point completely unjustified.
1
@PlaYer-sn5or No you did a complete backflip and showed conclusively that the actions of Syria, Iran or any country wishing to procure SSN don’t give a rats arse what Australian intends to do.
