@MAG58. Factually incorrect. The P-8s that the RAAF accepted from 2016 are brand new and are state of the art aircraft. You have been misinformed by your beer buddy.

@MAG58. Our E7 Wedgetails performed well during the defeat of ISIS with a 100% success rate and currently assist Ukraine against the Russians. Again your framie beer buddy is completely misinformed.

@MAG58. Yes the Taipain was in some respects a poor choice by the Howard government but the pilots I have spoken to say it was significantly better to fly than the Blackhawk. Our SF didn't like it for their particular tasks and because of the weight our SF forces had at the time every little flaw was magnified. Pilot error was responsible for most of the incidents short of the issue with spare parts. My understanding was the Blackhawk was the preferred choice at the time but for whatever reason the Howard government NSC went with the Taipian.

We do. I would consider both the P-8 Poseidon and E7A Wedgtail as longe range surveillance aircraft. There is also the MC-55A Peregrine.
