Certainly, and when the LNP are in government they can do that. It only seems fair as they were the government that legislated the ban in the first place, or bring a private members bill before the parliament.

Why is a legislative change required for a debate to take place. This argument seems illogical to me. We didn’t need legislation to have a debate about same sex marriage or a constitutional voice. There is no need for a plebiscite all that is needed is for the Libs to change the legislation.

Lets dispel the myth about solar: the sun shines every day. Every single day. There is nothing intermittent about it. And solar cells do work on cloudy days. They are less efficient, so you need more, but they are 1000 times more efficient than an old broken down coal station. People dont talk about how intermittent and how much maintenance coal and gas power plants actually need. They go off line all the time. But look how much desert we have! Blistering sun, almost all most days. Not intermittent. And if you live on the coast, you know the wind blows every single day too. It is the temperature difference between land and sea that causes it. It is how the Earth works. Of course we need reservoirs of energy to time shift the energy. So luckily we have lots of sand, for the sand batteries we can use. None of this is beyond our engineering capabilities. It is all proven and easy. A silent wind farm 20 kilometres out to sea, is no worse visually than coal and LNG tankers ships plying their trade along the coast.

@graemekeeley4497 Yep, without knowing the explicit details I’ll take your word. So what? My point is why is this needed to have a discussion on nuclear power? You don’t need legislative change for someone to provide a cost estimate.

@positivepawpaw7564 electricity provided from existing renewables has never been cheaper. What coincided with Labor gaining government was a war in Ukraine that significantly affected gas prices worldwide due to supply issues. As well you had the world wide inflationary effects of the post Covid supply chain issues. To ignore all these variables is just simplistic partisan politics. AMEO just recently announced that wholesale and subsequently retail electricity prices across the country will be reduced as wholesale renewable electricity costs come down, but please feel free to continue with your doomsaying.
