The power plants for the submarines will be built in either the UK by Rolls Royce or by GE in the US. They will then be fitted to the hulls during the construction. Absolutely and totally different to the construction of a large scale PWR from scratch here in Australia.

@ctclardy A US aircraft carrier costs $13 billion and has two PWRs. The technology is secret and will never be shared for commercial use. These miniature PWR require extensive supervision and extremely high levels of maintenance and are entirely unsuitable or cost effective for commercial use. The US has lost two SSN, Thresher was never recovered and the cause of accident never determined. There is a long list of Soviet/Russian accidents.

@ctclardy Firstly explain to me how the clear and precise statement "a US aircraft carrier costs $13 billion and has two PWR" be even remotely considered disingenuous? I didn't claim the PWRs cost $13 billion. My argument isn't that nuclear power can't be safe, in fact in Western countries it has been. It is relatively safe in France and the US because as explained in my earlier reply it is heavily regulated and highly maintained this equals additional cost. Nuclear power can certainly safe and reliable but it will never be cheap.
