@robbiesheppard3280 That's it, that's all a voice is. An opinion. The government of the day can go with it or part of it or ignore it entirely.

That would make some sense, however Turnbull was vehemently against a voice and know though carefully reading and understanding he realises it is not what he initially said it was. Good on him for being educated.

@Barndawg Race is a social construct. There is only one species of humans. This is not about race it is about the original inhabitants of the land.
1
@Barndawg Thanks for that, because by your definition section 51 of the current constitution is explicitly racist. So you have admitted our constitution is racist what are you going to do about it? I’m going to back recognition and an indigenous voice that restores balance not by being racist but by acknowledging the original inhabitants of the land irrelevant of their skin colour.

You confuse political representation with constitutional recognition. They are not the same thing.

Every constitutional lawyer has expressed an opinion that it can’t possibly be a third chamber of parliament. It has no veto power, it has no legislative ability, and no financial delegation. What you are saying is impossible.
1
You fundamentally misunderstand our system of government. Jacinta Price was elected by Northern Territorians to represent them in the Senate as a member of the CLP. She is not there representing her culture or ethnic group. She may bring her life experience to her job or she may not but that is her individual choice.

The Uluṟu statement from the heart is clear in its intent. You disingenuous suspect motives that are not there in an attempt to create division.

@axle.australian.patriot The Australian constitution is explicitly racist in form (section 51) and this is where the division begins. Indigenous recognition merely restores equity. It gives Indigenous people absolutely nothing extra. The only time the racist legislative powers in the constitution have been used were to make aboriginals non citizens and deny them voting rights.

Factually wrong on all counts. The constitution was written explicitly with the ability to change it, and there is a clear and well defined process. The idea that a document written 122 years ago will be fit for purpose in 500 years time in ludicrous. No government can change the constitution only a referendum can. Did you not learn anything at school when Australian history was taught.
